Meaning and history
Æðelþryð is an Old English feminine name formed from elements meaning “noble” and “strength.” Its best-known bearer was the seventh-century East Anglian princess and abbess Saint Æthelthryth of Ely, whose name later developed into the English form Audrey. She founded the monastery at Ely and became an important medieval saint.
