Meaning and history
Enoch is a name derived from the Hebrew חֲנוֹך (Ḥanoḵ), meaning “dedicated.” In the Old Testament book of Genesis, it is the name of Cain’s son, and also of the son of Jared and father of Methuselah, who was regarded as the supposed author of the apocryphal Books of Enoch.
