Meaning and history
Enos is the English biblical form of Hebrew Enosh, a word meaning “man” or “mortal human.” In Genesis, Enos is the son of Seth and grandson of Adam, and his lifetime is associated with the beginning of calling upon the name of the Lord. The name therefore carries early biblical and genealogical significance. It also appears in Latter-day Saint scripture through Enos, a figure in the Book of Mormon. American baseball player Enos Slaughter is a notable modern bearer.
