Meaning and history
Eudocia is a Latinized form of Greek Eudokia, composed of eu, “good,” and a root connected with thought, approval, or goodwill. It is commonly interpreted as “good will” or “well regarded.” The name was prominent in the Byzantine world and borne by several empresses. Aelia Eudocia, wife of Theodosius II, was a fifth-century empress, poet, and patron of learning. Eudokia and Evdokia are related Greek and Slavic forms.
