Evaristo is the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian form of Evaristus. The Greek name Evaristos derives from eu, “good” or “well,” and arestos, “pleasing,” giving “well pleasing.” Pope Evaristus, traditionally an early bishop of Rome, gave the name Christian significance. Notable bearers include Argentine poet Evaristo Carriego and Portuguese footballer Evaristo de Macedo, who also represented Brazil. Evarista is the corresponding feminine form.
