Meaning and history
Ezekiel comes from Hebrew Yeḥezqel, meaning "God will strengthen." The major Old Testament prophet lived in Jerusalem until the Babylonian conquest carried him into captivity, and the Book of Ezekiel records his symbolic visions foretelling Israel's restoration. The name has been used in English since the Protestant Reformation.
