Floris

Floris is a Dutch masculine form of the Late Roman name Florentius. It derives from Latin florens, meaning “flourishing,” “prosperous,” or “blooming,” itself related to flos, “flower.” The name was borne by several medieval counts of Holland, giving it a long aristocratic history in the Low Countries. Notable modern bearers include Dutch cyclist Floris Goesinnen and Dutch field hockey player Floris Wortelboer. It is distinct in gender and usage from the English feminine name Florence.
