Florrie is an English feminine diminutive of Florence. Florence derives from the Latin name Florentia, based on florens, meaning “flourishing” or “prosperous,” and related to the word for “flower.” The full name became especially associated with Florence Nightingale, the pioneering nineteenth-century nurse. Florrie has also been used independently since the Victorian era. Notable bearers include English singer and drummer Florrie Arnold, who performs as Florrie, and British trade unionist Florrie Davidson.
