Frida is a Germanic and Scandinavian name derived from an element meaning "peace," and it can also shorten names ending in -frid. Its best-known bearer is Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, whose self-portraits made the name internationally familiar. Other bearers include Swedish singer Frida Lyngstad of ABBA and German writer Frida von Bülow.
