Frøya is the Norwegian form of Freyja, the Old Norse name of a major goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, magic, and battle. Her name is related to an Old Norse word meaning “lady.” The mythological Freyja is its principal bearer, and the form Frøya is also familiar from the Norwegian island and municipality of that name.
