Meaning and history
Gaja has several unrelated origins. In Slovenian and Polish it is commonly a form of Gaia, the ancient Greek personification of Earth, whose name means “earth.” In South Asian contexts, Sanskrit gaja means “elephant,” but that word should not automatically be assigned to European bearers. The spelling can also represent other local forms. Notable bearers include Slovenian singer Gaja Prestor and Polish crime novelist Gaja Grzegorzewska. Cultural context determines the intended meaning.
