Habib is an Arabic masculine name from ḥabīb, meaning “beloved,” “dear,” or “loved one.” It is formed from the Arabic root ḥ-b-b, associated with love, and is used across Arabic-speaking and Muslim communities. Al-Habib can also appear as an honorific or devotional expression, but ordinary bearers do not thereby hold a religious title. Notable bearers include Tunisian statesman Habib Bourguiba and Malian singer and guitarist Habib Koité.
