Meaning and history
Hari is a Sanskrit name meaning “brown, yellow, tawny,” and by extension “monkey, horse, lion.” It is also another name for the Hindu god Vishnu and sometimes for his avatar Krishna. In this religious context, it is sometimes explained as deriving from Sanskrit हृ (hṛ), “to take away,” in reference to the removal of sins.
