Meaning and history
Harmonia is an ancient Greek feminine name meaning “harmony,” “agreement,” or “concord.” In Greek mythology, Harmonia is usually described as the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite and the wife of Cadmus, founder of Thebes. The cursed necklace given at their wedding became important in later Theban legends. The name thus joins an abstract ideal with a mythological figure. A notable modern bearer is Afro-Cuban American visual artist Harmonia Rosales.
