Meaning and history
Harriet is the English form of Henriette and thus a feminine form of Harry. First used in the 17th century, it became very common in the English-speaking world by the 18th century. Notable bearers include the American author Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811–1896), who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and the abolitionist Harriet Tubman (1820–1913).
