Meaning and history
Hathor is the Greek form of Egyptian ḥwt-ḥrw, reconstructed as Hut-Heru, meaning “the house of Horus,” from Egyptian ḥwt “house” combined with the god Horus. In Egyptian mythology, she was a goddess of love and was often depicted with a cow’s head.
