Meaning and history
Heck is a rare English and Scottish nickname, most often a short form of Hector. Hector comes from Greek Hektor, derived from a verb meaning “to hold fast” or “to defend.” In Homer’s Iliad, Hector is Troy’s foremost warrior and defender, giving the name lasting heroic significance. Heck may also arise from surnames or family nicknames, so its origin is not always identical. Prominent independent real-life bearers are scarce.
