Meaning and history
Idril is a name meaning “sparkle brilliance” in the fictional Sindarin language. In J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion (1977), Idril was the daughter of Turgon, king of Gondolin, and she escaped the city’s destruction with her husband Tuor before sailing west with him.
