Ima

Ima has several unrelated uses. In modern Hebrew, ima is the familiar word for “mother,” though it is not traditionally a common personal name on that basis. In English-language use, Ima may be an independent creation or a shortened form of names such as Imogen, and individual family history determines its source. The best-known bearer was American philanthropist Ima Hogg, whose unusual name came from a poem admired by her father rather than a Hebrew naming tradition.
