Imogen is the name of the daughter of King Cymbeline in William Shakespeare’s play Cymbeline (1609). Shakespeare based the character on the legendary Innogen, but the name was printed incorrectly and never corrected; Innogen is probably derived from the Gaelic inghean, meaning “maiden.” As a given name, Imogen is chiefly British and Australian.
