Meaning and history
Iovita is a Romanian and Italian-related form of Jovita or Iovita. The Late Latin name Iovita is connected with Iovis, the genitive form of Jupiter or Jove, and therefore means “of Jove” or “belonging to Jupiter.” Saint Jovita, traditionally a male early Christian martyr of Brescia, helped preserve the name despite its pagan linguistic root. Modern exact-name use is rare, and reliable prominent bearers are limited. Jovita may be feminine in later usage.
