Meaning and history
Jolanta is a Polish, Czech, Slovak, and Baltic form of Yolanda. The medieval name probably descends from Violante, but its deeper origin is uncertain; later association with Latin viola, “violet,” produced the popular floral interpretation. Saint Jolenta of Poland, a thirteenth-century princess and nun, gave the name Catholic significance. Notable bearers include former Polish first lady Jolanta Kwaśniewska and Polish footballer Jolanta Siwińska. Jola is a common Polish short form.
