Meaning and history
Justin comes from the Latin name Iustinus, derived from Justus. It was borne by several early saints, including Justin Martyr, a 2nd-century Christian philosopher who was beheaded in Rome, and by two Byzantine emperors. In English, it has been used occasionally since the late Middle Ages, but it did not become common until the second half of the 20th century. Notable modern bearers include the pop stars Justin Timberlake (1981-) and Justin Bieber (1994-).
