Kamala is a Sanskrit name meaning “lotus” or “pale red.” It transcribes both the feminine form कमला and the masculine form कमल in Sanskrit, though in modern languages it is used only as a feminine name. In Tantric Hinduism and Shaktism, Kamala is also the name of a goddess identified with Lakshmi.
