Meaning and history
Kandace is a modern spelling variant of Candace. Candace comes from Kandake, a hereditary title borne by queens and queen mothers of the ancient African kingdom of Kush rather than originally being one woman’s personal name. The New Testament mentions a royal official serving “Candace, queen of the Ethiopians,” which introduced the form into Christian naming. A notable bearer is American singer-songwriter Kandace Springs. The title’s deeper Meroitic etymology remains uncertain.
