Kareem is a common English transcription of the Arabic masculine name Karīm, written كريم and meaning “generous,” “noble,” or “honourable.” Al-Karīm, “the Most Generous,” is one of the traditional names of God in Islam, lending the name religious significance. It is used widely across Arabic-speaking and Muslim communities, with Karim another frequent spelling. Notable bearers include American basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and American actor Kareem Grimes.
