Meaning and history
Kees is a Dutch masculine diminutive of Cornelis. Cornelis is the Dutch form of Cornelius, an ancient Roman family name whose origin is uncertain; traditional links with Latin cornu, “horn,” are possible but not securely established. Kees is now commonly used independently in the Netherlands. Notable bearers include Dutch-French painter Kees van Dongen and Dutch speed skater Kees Verkerk. The name is pronounced differently from the English word keys.
In 2022, 5 babies were recorded with the name Kees, ranking #12,330 among boys.
