Meaning and history
Kyou is a romanized Japanese given name, more commonly written Kyō under a long-vowel transcription system. Its meaning depends on the kanji: possibilities include 京, “capital,” 杏, “apricot,” or other characters and combinations chosen for their sound and meaning. It can be used for more than one gender and may also occur in surnames or compound names. The Latin spelling alone cannot establish the intended characters, so claims of one fixed translation are unreliable.
