Wanda is a name of uncertain origin associated with the legendary Polish Princess Wanda; claims that it simply means “wanderer” are folk etymology. LaWanda therefore does not have a reliably established literal compound meaning. The best-known bearer is American actor and comedian LaWanda Page, celebrated for playing Aunt Esther on the television sitcom Sanford and Son.
