Leatrice is an English feminine name created in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, probably by blending Leah with Beatrice or by elaborating the ending -trice. Because it is a modern formation, it has no securely established classical translation of its own. Leah is a Hebrew biblical name of uncertain meaning, while Beatrice ultimately became associated with Latin beatus, “blessed.” Notable bearers include American silent-film actor Leatrice Joy and color specialist Leatrice Eiseman.
