From an Irish surname derived from the byname Leannán, meaning “lover,” Lennon became a given name in honor of musician John Lennon (1940–1980), the Beatles member who bore the surname. In the United States it is now used more often for girls, possibly influenced in part by singer Lennon Stella (born 1999), who began appearing on Nashville in 2012.
