Meaning and history
The name means “brave lion” and comes from the Old German elements lewo, meaning “lion” and of Latin origin, and hart, meaning “hard,” “firm,” “brave,” or “hardy.” It was the name of a 6th-century Frankish saint from Noblac, patron of prisoners and horses. The Normans brought the name to England, where it was used steadily during the Middle Ages and became even more common in the 20th century.
