Meaning and history
Ljubica is a Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, and Slovene feminine name. It derives from the Slavic element ljub, “love,” with a diminutive suffix, and also coincides with the Serbian and Croatian word for the violet flower. The name can therefore evoke both affection and floral imagery. Notable bearers include Serbian painter Ljubica Cuca Sokić and Croatian politician Ljubica Lalić. The initial Lj represents a single South Slavic sound.
