Meaning and history
This name comes from the title Marquis of Lorne, which was based on the Scottish place name Lorne, possibly derived from the name of the legendary king of Dál Riata, Loarn mac Eirc. It was the title of the first Governor General of Canada and has since been used there most often as a given name. A notable bearer was the Canadian actor Lorne Greene (1915–1987).
Lorne rose from #852 to #824 for boys between 1971 and 1972. Its highest annual birth count came in 1966, with 186 births.
