Meaning and history
Lúcás is the Latin form of the Greek Loukas (see Luke) and is also used in several other languages. The name became highly popular during the second half of the 20th century and entered the boys' top ten in France by 1997, followed by Belgium, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, Spain, and finally the United States in 2018.

Lucas has made a dramatic comeback. After first appearing in the US records in 1881, it fell to #995 by 1908, before climbing to #10 in 2025. Its highest annual birth count came in 2017, with 13,032 births.
