Meaning and history
Lucretia is the feminine form of the Roman family name Lucretius, possibly derived from Latin lucrum meaning “profit” or “wealth.” In Roman legend, Lucretia was a maiden raped by the son of the king of Rome, an event that provoked public outrage and led to the overthrow of the monarchy. The name was also borne by a 4th-century saint and martyr from Mérida, Spain.
