Meaning and history
Lynnette is a modern spelling variant of Lynette or Linette. Linet appears in medieval Arthurian romance as the woman who accompanies Gareth, but its deeper etymology is uncertain. Modern forms may also be influenced by Lynn, associated in English use with Welsh llyn, “lake,” though that is not universal. A notable bearer is American model and beauty-pageant winner Lynnette Cole. The doubled n reflects modern styling rather than a different historical root.
Lynnette moved from #904 to #927 for girls between 1981 and 1982. Its highest annual birth count came in 1964, with 506 births.
