Meaning and history
Manfred is a name derived from the Old German elements man meaning "man" and fridu meaning "peace." It was borne by a 13th-century king of Sicily and by Manfred von Richthofen (1892–1918), the World War I pilot known as the Red Baron. The name is also used for the title character in Lord Byron’s drama Manfred (1817).
