Meaning and history
Marsaili is the Scottish Gaelic form of Marjorie. Marjorie developed from Margaret, which derives from Greek margarites, meaning “pearl.” The form became established in Gaelic-speaking Scotland and should retain its traditional pronunciation, which differs from an English reading. Margaret has extensive Christian and royal history through saints and queens, while Marsaili expresses that heritage in Gaelic form. Reliable internationally prominent bearers using exactly Marsaili are limited, so its linguistic tradition is the clearest focus.
