Matias is a Spanish, Portuguese and Finnish form of Matthias, ultimately from the Hebrew name Mattityahu, meaning "gift of Yahweh." Matthias appears in the New Testament as the disciple chosen to replace Judas Iscariot among the twelve apostles.
