Meaning and history
Máximo is the Spanish form of Maximus, a Roman family name and title from Latin maximus, meaning “greatest.” Several early saints bore Maximus, and the name was also used by Roman officials and military figures. The accent in Máximo marks the standard Spanish stress and should be preserved. Notable bearers include Dominican-Cuban independence leader Máximo Gómez and Argentine politician Máximo Kirchner. Massimo is the corresponding Italian form, while Max is a common international short form.
