Meaning and history

From Greek Μήδεια (Medeia), derived from μήδεα (medea) meaning “plans, counsel, cunning,” this name comes from Greek mythology, where Medea was a sorceress from Colchis, in modern Georgia, who helped Jason obtain the Golden Fleece. Although they married, Jason later abandoned her for another woman, and Medea took revenge by killing his new lover and having their children killed.
