Meaning and history
Micah is a contracted form of Micaiah and the name of one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament, traditionally credited with the Book of Micah, which alternates between prophecies of doom and restoration. The name also belongs to a separate figure in the Book of Judges, the keeper of an idol. Used occasionally as an English given name by the Puritans after the Protestant Reformation, it did not become common until the late 20th century.
