Meaning and history
A diminutive or feminine form of Michael, this name was given by Walt Disney to Ub Iwerks’ cartoon character Mickey Mouse, who debuted in 1928 and was originally developed as Mortimer Mouse. Another well-known bearer was the American baseball player Mickey Mantle (1931–1995).
Mickey moved from #864 to #971 for boys between 1996 and 1997. Its highest annual birth count came in 1957, with 950 births.
