Minerva may be related to the Latin mens, meaning “intellect,” or may instead be of Etruscan origin. In Roman mythology, Minerva was the goddess of wisdom and war, roughly equivalent to the Greek Athena, and the name has been used as a given name in the English-speaking world since after the Renaissance.
