Miro has several uses. In Slavic languages it is a short form of names containing mir, meaning “peace” or “world,” such as Miroslav. In Finnish, Miro is used independently and may have entered through related European forms. It should be distinguished from Miró, the Catalan surname of artist Joan Miró. Notable given-name bearers include Finnish ice hockey player Miro Heiskanen and Croatian footballer Miro Kovačić.
