Meaning and history
Created by the 17th-century poet Fulke Greville, Myra may derive from Latin myrra, meaning “myrrh,” a fragrant resin obtained from a tree, or it may simply be an anagram of Mary. Although unrelated etymologically, Myra is also the name of an ancient city in Anatolia.
