Nana has several unrelated origins. In Japanese it can be written with characters such as 奈々 or 菜々, so meaning depends on the kanji. In Ghana, Nana is an Akan title used by chiefs, elders, and respected people and also appears as a given name. In Georgian it is a traditional feminine name of uncertain origin, while in European languages it can be an affectionate form. Notable bearers include Ghanaian statesman Nana Akufo-Addo and Japanese singer Nana Mizuki.
