Na'omi is the biblical Hebrew form of Naomi, meaning "my pleasantness." In the Old Testament, Naomi loses her husband and sons in Moab before returning to Bethlehem with her devoted daughter-in-law Ruth; their story forms the heart of the Book of Ruth. The name remained common in Jewish communities and spread among English-speaking Christians after the Protestant Reformation.
