Meaning and history
Narges is a Persian feminine name meaning “narcissus,” the flowering plant. It comes through Persian from the same ancient word family that produced Greek Narkissos and the English word narcissus. The flower has long appeared in Persian poetry and visual culture as an image of beauty, especially beautiful eyes. Notable bearers include Iranian human-rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi and Iranian filmmaker Narges Abyar.
